Monumental Inscriptions - Introduction.

The Medway Series of Monumental Inscriptions has now been produced in collaboration with the Institute of Heraldic & Genealogical Studies.

During the 1940's to 1960's, Cecil R Humphery-Smith was involved with the national work, led by the Society of Genealogists, to collect monumental inscriptions from graveyards. Much time was spent talking to school children and teachers about this important work and this lead to many collections of MI's being transcribed by school children during their holidays. A large number were deposited with the S.O.G., but a substantial quantity have been held at the Institute of Heraldic & Genealogical Studies.

These transcripts which were previously published on Mini CDs have now been discontinued. However all Monumental Inscriptions listed on Index Page can be searched on line at prtsoc.frontisgroup.com.. To view an entry will require you to register with a user name, password and purchase a few credits. These transcripts can be found in the Monumental Inscription folder under Browse Records.

Please note: The transcripts are not a definitive listing of all the Monumental Inscriptions in each grave yard, some are quite extensive, others minimal.
