The Hackman Series of Hampshire Bishops Transcripts - Introduction
The "Hackman Series" of publications are copies of the work carried out by the late Mr R.M.B.H Hackman. They consist, in the main, of hand-written transcripts of the surviving B/T's of Hampshire & Isle of Wight parish registers and mainly cover the period 1780 - 1812, though some of Mr Hackman's work covers a significantly wider range for a few parishes.
In most cases, the original documents have been written in school exercise books and are un-indexed. There are approximately 300 books and folders covering some 288 Hampshire & Isle of Wight parishes, with a particular emphasis on the parish of Romsey, where Mr Hackman resided for some time. The "Hackman Transcripts" are now owned by the Institute of Heraldic & Genealogical Studies, who have kindly offered them to the PRTS for filming and publication.
The complete Hackman Series of Hampshire Bishops Transcripts ISSN 1472-1074 Volumes 01 to 82 is now available as a double cd and in Mini cd format in volume groups, see below. Please see the volume lists for parishes and dates covered.
Please note: These transcripts were originally produced on micro fiche and in volumes, though are no longer produced in micro fiche format. There may still be a few copies available and if you really require fiche format, please contact the society for availability and price.
