Poor Law Cases from the Quarter Sessions of :--.Cambridgeshire, Cambridge Borough & Ely Liberty.
This volume includes all Poor Law cases that came before Cambridgeshire, Cambridge Borough and the Liberty of the Bishop of Ely's courts of Quarter Sessions at Ely and Wisbech during specific periods. It includes cases of settlement and removal, apprenticeship, bastardy, beggars, rogues and vagabonds and any case that had a bearing on the poor in general.
For Cambridge borough it highlights the problems of eighteenth century prostitutes in a university town and for Ely Liberty the widespread incidence of bastardy in the north of the shire in the early nineteenth century when Episcopal authorities appear particularly vigilant in prosecuting reputed fathers. The edited abstracts should be used in conjunction with the parish listings of settlement, removal, apprenticeship and bastardy made by the Cambridgeshire Family History Society which are available on microfiche from the CFHS and can be inspected.
